North Korea Internet use has increased 300% in the past three years, the country’s regime continues to depend crypto-currencies for various activities.
Entitled “How North Korea Revolutionized the Internet as a Tool for Rogue Regimes”, the study was released February 9 by Insikt Group, an intelligence arm of the US cybersecurity company Recorded Future. The study also noted that North Koreans involved in cybercrime are often sent abroad to obtain advanced nuclear training and knowledge banned by the United Nations.
In 2019, Insikt continued to search for North Korean agents in eight countries, including India, China, Nepal, Kenya, Mozambique, Indonesia, Thailand and Bangladesh. Specifically, the intelligence team suggested that China and India are the two main countries that unwittingly welcome and allow illicit operations in North Korea.
North Korean hackers are said to have assumed responsibility for a number of hacks and phishing attacks in South Korean crypto exchanges such as UpBit.
